The rice gastronomy campaign is celebrated in Pals in the Spring; then, in the summer, the traditional rice sowing time arrives with the “Planta’t a Pals” season and during the summer months you can enjoy the Sardana dances (traditional dances of Catalonia) and Habaneras (sea shanties brought back by Catalan sailors from Cuba), the Night of the Candles, the White Summer Festival, the Pals Wine Fair with wine exhibitions and tasting sessions, the main town festival of Pals and Playa de Pals beach as well as the main festival of the town of Els Masos de Pals. Finally, in October, the time of the traditional rice harvest arrives.
The Pals Market is organised every Tuesday from 08:00 - 13:00; there you can find basic products from our Catalan gastronomy (fruit, vegetables, oils, cheeses...), plants, vegetable and fruit seedlings, clothes, accessories and much more.
On Saturdays the Pals flea market is also organised in the town centre.
The Pals Town Festival is held during the month of August and various activities are organised for the event. In particular, obras de teatro, los conciertos de fiesta mayor, el oficio solemne de fiesta mayor y eventos típicos catalanes como la cantada de habaneras y los conciertos de sardanas.
The traditional sowing of the rice is carried out in the municipality of Pals during the month of June. The local farmers offer the public a demonstration of the manual rice sowing process with their feet submerged in the water. The rice sown in June is harvested in October.
The rice sowing tradition in Pals is a recommended activity for the whole family.
The night of the candles is the most magical night in Pals! It is held in July and the old town of Pals is transformed into a show of candle lights, music, dance and fine cuisine. All the street lights in the old town are turned off so that those attending can enjoy a unique experience.
